I’ve already seen Brighton’s Royal Pavilion – it was one of the highlights of a research trip I took to England in 2008. While the Prince Regent (later George IV) was generally a wastrel, glutton, rake, and any other old-timey insult you care to use, he did have extraordinary taste in architecture, fashion and the arts. His stamp is still all over London, but while his ongoing masterwork at Carlton House was ultimately torn down so that he could start over with Buckingham Palace, Brighton’s Royal Pavilion remains as a testament to the insanely opulent life that he lived.

But if that’s not reason enough to go, there’s more: you have one year to see a fabulous temporary exhibit on Regency fashion. Pray, tell me more! →
